What is an executive order?

An executive order is an order issued by the US President using his executive powers. These orders direct government agencies and departments to perform specific tasks. These orders are binding like law, but they do not require the approval of Congress (Parliament).

Special features of Executive Order:

1. Legal Binding: These orders are mandatory for government agencies.

2. Quick Action Tool: The President can implement them immediately, which speeds up the policy making process.

3. Limits: These orders can be given only within the ambit of the Constitution and existing laws. If an order is unconstitutional or illegal, it can be challenged in court.

4. Role of Congress: If Congress wants, it can nullify such orders by passing new laws.

Donald Trump issued many significant Executive Orders immediately after becoming President. Some of the important decisions among them are:

1. TikTok ban: Citing national security, Trump ordered a ban on Chinese apps like TikTok.

2. Work from Home policies: To increase government efficiency, he decided to reform work from home policies.

3. Promotion of Artificial Intelligence: Ordered to boost AI-related programs so that America could move ahead in the field of AI.

4. Removal of DEI policies: Gave an order to end Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies in the Army.
