Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te has emphasized on defense, increased budget amid the threat of China

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te said in his New Year’s address that strengthening Taiwan’s security is the priority of his government. He said that Taiwan is a “defense line” not only for itself but also for global democracy.

China has been constantly staking its claim on Taiwan and threatens to take it under its control by using force if necessary. In response to this, President Lai said that Taiwan’s defense budget and military capabilities will be strengthened further.

He also stressed that international support is necessary for Taiwan. Lai appealed to democratic nations to stand with Taiwan as the stability of Taiwan is very important for the peace of the Asia-Pacific region and for global democracy.
