Northwestern University scientists have achieved a groundbreaking achievement. They have successfully demonstrated quantum teleportation via a fiber optic cable that can also carry Internet traffic. This innovative test opens up new ways to integrate quantum communications with existing Internet infrastructure.

Lead researcher Professor Prem Kumar said, “This is very exciting because no one thought this could be possible. Our work towards next-generation quantum shows a new path by sharing classical networks with the same fiber optic infrastructure.

This breakthrough not only can simplify the setup for distributed quantum sensing and computing but also creates the possibility of building a hybrid system of quantum and classical technologies for the future.
