China has conducted several naval and air force drills around Taiwan. Since the election of Taiwan’s new president Lai Ching-te, Beijing has become even more active. Since the elections in May, China has conducted three major military drills, including invading Taiwan’s airspace. Xi Jinping said, “The people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family. No one can stop our unity.”

Taiwan is an important partner of the US, and it gets a lot of weapons from Washington. The US’s support for democracy is part of its old decisions. During the Cold War, the US also supported democracy against Russia.
