BJP has achieved a historic victory in Delhi elections, and now everyone’s focus is on who will be the next Chief Minister?
The most powerful candidate – Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma
Parvesh Verma has shown a big political shift by defeating Arvind Kejriwal in his own city, New Delhi seat. This was not just a victory of 4,000 votes, but also proved to be the last stage of AAP’s 10-year rule.
Verma becoming CM will be a strong message for the Jat community, which is a big vote bank for BJP in the elections of Haryana, Rajasthan and UP. His dominance became even stronger when he met Home Minister Amit Shah immediately after his victory. If we look at political history, it is a trend that the leader who wins New Delhi seat becomes the CM – as seen in the case of Sheila Dikshit and Arvind Kejriwal.
Other possible faces
- Satish Upadhyay (Brahmin face) – He has been the former state president of BJP and was also the Vice Chairman of NDMC. His administrative experience and close ties with RSS work in his favour.
- Ashish Sood (representative of Punjabi community) – He is the new MLA from Janakpuri and his hold is quite strong in Delhi BJP. He also has an important role in Goa and J&K BJP unit.
- Jitendra Mahajan & Vijender Gupta (from Vaishya community) – Both are old and experienced leaders. But Vijender Gupta’s name seems a little strong because he is a three-time MLA and has also been the Leader of Opposition earlier.
BJP’s tremendous victory and AAP’s downfall
BJP brought an end to AAP’s 10-year rule by winning 48 seats. Modi wave, women voters, middle-class and old-time vote bank supported BJP this time. Congress was reduced to zero for the third consecutive time.
Now the biggest question is what kind of government will BJP form in Delhi? Is Parvesh Verma going to take advantage of the ‘double engine government’ by becoming CM or will some other face come forward? BJP can take this decision quickly.
