Voting Process and Challenges
In some previous elections, there has been a decline in voter turnout. Opposition parties boycotted the elections and also leveled allegations of fraud. CEC accepted that there was a decline in voter registration due to fake voters and lack of trust in the election process. He announced that the voter list will be updated within the next 6 months.
He also said that this time the elections will not be like the previous elections. After 5 August, good progress has been made to build a national consensus on election-related matters.
A new issue
Interim government head Mohammad Yunus has given a controversial suggestion. He has said that minors under the age of 18 should also get voting rights. If this proposal is passed, people under the age of 18 will also be eligible to vote in Bangladesh. However, BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) has criticized this proposal and said that the minimum voting age should be reduced to 17 years.
