Jimmy Carter – An extraordinary journey of an ordinary life

Jimmy Carter’s life was from being a farmer in an ordinary village to becoming the President of the most powerful country in the world. Born on 1 October 1924 in a small place called Plains, Georgia, Carter was a peanut farmer and a veteran of the US Navy. After becoming Governor, he completed his one term as President between 1977-1981.

During Carter’s presidency, he made human rights and social justice his priority. Through the Camp David Accords, he brought about a peace agreement between Israel and Egypt, which is still considered an example of an important career. But his presidency was filled with many challenges – due to the Iran hostage crisis and the oil crisis, his reputation suffered and he lost the election to Ronald Reagan in 1980.
