Android 16’s first public beta update rolls out

Google has released the first public beta version of Android 16. This update is currently available only for Google Pixel 6 and subsequent models. The full rollout of the public version is expected in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.

  1. Live Updates and Dynamic Notifications

Now notifications will be pinned to the top of the stack for live tracking.

Focus on ongoing activities like food delivery, ride-sharing and navigation.

This feature is inspired by Apple’s “Live Activities” and Samsung’s “Now Bar”.

Apps will now resize dynamically on larger screens.

Developers will not be able to lock app size and orientation.

Improved multi-tasking experience.

  1. Advanced Features

High-quality video playback with Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec.

Night mode support in camera apps with Scene Detection.

Improvements in vertical text rendering for Asian languages.

Option to share medical data securely through Health Connect App.

  1. AI Integration

Google’s Gemini AI Assistant can now manage tasks in apps like Spotify and WhatsApp.

More AI integration will be available in future updates.

This update is rolling out for devices ranging from Pixel 6 to Pixel tablet.

Public Launch Timeline

The final version of Android 16 will be released in the second quarter of 2025.
