South Korea Impeachment and Rebellion Allegations
President Yoon was impeached on December 14 after the National Assembly voted, when he imposed martial law. They say it was a legitimate act of governance, but the opposition says it was a misuse of power. During martial law he deployed police and troops on the streets of Seoul, which was considered against democratic norms.
According to South Korean law, presidential immunity does not apply to allegations of rebellion or treason. If Yoon is found guilty, he could face the death penalty or life imprisonment.
