Employees of the giant tech company Samsung India have been protesting in the factory since February 5. These employees are demanding the reinstatement of their three suspended colleagues. But no positive step has been taken by the management so far, due to which the strike is becoming more fierce.
Support of CITU, sloganeering against the administration
About 50 supporters of CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) demonstrated in Sunguvarchatram area of Sriperumbudur district. They raised slogans against Samsung India and the district administration and alleged that the rights of the workers are being ignored.
CITU official E. Muthu Kumar warned that if their demands are not met, the strike will be intensified. He has also sought support from other employee organizations of Tamil Nadu.
Sit-in inside the factory without food and water
According to the leaders of the employee organization, the employees have been protesting inside the factory without food and water since February 5. They say that they will continue the strike until the suspended employees are reinstated.
Samsung management’s response
A Samsung India spokesperson said,
“We do not support any illegal action that disrupts industrial peace at the workplace.”
However, no concrete solution was found by the company, which is increasing anger among the employees.
There was protest earlier too, but only assurance was given
This is not the first time that Samsung India employees are protesting.
In 2024 also, the employees went on strike for about 30 days over salary revision and other demands.
The government ended the strike by assuring a solution at that time, but the demands were not met.
Now the employees are planning to intensify the strike again.
Battle of Samsung vs Apple, but opposition at home
Samsung is constantly launching new products and features to compete with Apple, but its own employees have stood up against the company. If this strike continues for long, it can affect Samsung’s production and delivery chain.
Now it remains to be seen whether Samsung management accepts the demands of the employees or the protests will intensify.
