Money, fame and then the spectacle of renunciation

I remember, in a show in Meerut Mamta Kulkarni said on stage – “Lion has come, lion has come…” and when the lion really came, it was caught! Today Mamta’s story also seems similar. The one who was once the most glamorous and bold actress of Bollywood, has now become Sadhvi Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri. Seeing the spectacle of money and fame, sometimes it feels that this world is no less than a big circus.

A journey from glamour to renunciation

In the 90s Mamta Kulkarni’s name was a symbol of boldness and attitude. Karan Arjun, Sabse Bada Khiladi, was shining in films like Baazi. When her career was at its peak, she became a mystery and vanished from Bollywood.

Then she came back in the news, but the headlines were not good. Her name was linked to underworld connection and drug scandal. Her connection with Vicky Goswami and links with drug mafia made her even more controversial. The Bollywood diva of her time, had now become a desired personality.

Vairagya or compulsion?

Mamta says that she lived a life of tapasya and brahmacharya for 23 years. Now the Kinnar Akhada has given her the title of Mahamandaleshwar. The heroine who was once famous for her bold photoshoots, has become the face of sanyas today.

But the question is – is this really renunciation or a strategy for a new image makeover? Was her inclination towards spirituality since childhood, or is it a way to run away from the underworld and controversies?

The truth of life – money is not everything

Mamta Kulkarni’s story gives a big lesson – money and fame do not last forever. As long as they are there, the world salutes them, and when they go away, then either the person runs away or takes up renunciation. Mamta’s journey from Bollywood to Sanyas shows that the real happiness of life comes from within, not just from glamour and fame.

But a big question is this too – if even today Mamta Kulkarni had the same money, fame and power, would she have taken Sanyas? Or is all this the result of a compulsion?

What do you say? Is Mamta Kulkarni’s Sanyas really a spiritual journey or just a planned escape? Do give your opinion in the comments!
