Elon Musk’s Starlink is ready to launch in India
Elon Musk’s Starlink is ready to launch in India, and it can bring a big disruption in the country’s satellite broadband market. So far, Mukesh Ambani’s Jio and Sunil Mittal’s Airtel have secured their regulatory approvals for satellite-based internet services, but it seems that Starlink can become the first satellite broadband provider to launch its service in India.
The specialty of Starlink is that it provides high-speed satellite internet, in which people can make calls and access internet even without mobile network, no matter how remote the location is. Considering the demand for rural connectivity in India, the arrival of Starlink can be a game-changer.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) received the spectrum allocation recommendations from TRAI on December 15 and is now working on creating a framework for Starlink. If it launches, it can bring a revolution in internet access in remote and underserved areas.
But this will be a new challenge for Jio and Airtel. Both companies have huge market penetration and strong networks in India, so it will be interesting to see how they prepare for this new competition and further innovate their services. India’s telecom sector is now about to move towards a new era!
