What is OPT Program?

Through OPT, international students can get 12 months of work experience in a field related to their studies. For STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) graduates, this duration can be extended by 24 months, which makes a total of 3 years of work experience. For most Indian students, this is an essential step to secure an H-1B visa.

Therefore, the program is now being put under scrutiny, and some are talking about restricting or eliminating it. If this happens, it could directly impact more than 97,000 Indian students.
